indian cooking class

we havent been able to find a good indian restaurant in south florida, so nick suggested we take an indian cooking class. we met ayesha d’mello at a fairchild garden event, and her food was wonderful! the cooking class was a great, great time, and we are excited to replicate the recipes at home. we are now vegan (for health reasons) and will make tofu curry instead of chicken curry :)

chairs were set up in her kitchen; she can fit about 10 people

we ate outside by the pool

the food was so amazing; i could've eaten everything by myself! (that's not nick, just a guy i couldnt cut out of the photo)

mango festival

after a wonderful 2-week road trip, nick and i are relieved to be back in miami.

today we went to the fairchild tropical botanic garden annual mango festival. i didnt know there were so many varieties of mangos from all over the world. the auction was truly eye-opening; people paid $60-150 for mangos!! like all fairchild garden festivals, this one had great food. the mango salsa was amazing.

montego bay anniversary trip

nick and i had a wonderfully relaxing time over memorial day weekend celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary. we stayed at the decameron hotel only 5 minutes from the airport. we had a ton of fun kayaking, snorkeling, and eating. the food was so good! there will be many more caribbean trips in our future.

goombay festival

aka the worst street festival ever! held the first weekend in june, the coconut grove festival celebrates bahamian culture in south florida.

we arrived about 90 minutes after it was scheduled to start. the booths were still setting up and no one was there. random, unauthorized people were scamming naive visitors and tourists by charging $5 for free street parking. the speakers were so incredibly loud that nick and i could not have a conversation while standing next to each other. the sound quality was great but we werent in a club, and no one was dancing. the food was the biggest disappointment. not only was it not ready, the food that was ready was over cooked and under-seasoned. we left in less than 20 minutes.

jungle island

a girl i went to college with lives in pembroke pines, north of miami. we recently reconnected, and she invited me to volunteer with her at a youth fitness event held at jungle island. she is really into fitness and the non-profit, running with sole, helps fight childhood obesity.

jungle island is kinda of like a zoo. the have exotic birds everywhere, snakes, monkeys, a petting zoo, and a liger!

they also have my newest obsession: alligators!

it was a good afternoon, and i’ll probably volunteer with running with sole again. jungle island was fun to see, but i doubt i’ll make a trip back.
